Paul is proud of his safety record but not complacent in a world of increased litigation and responsibility. In many cases, people lose touch
with the reason why they have organised the event. Always imagine when planning an event that you are standing in court explaining why it went
wrong. If you can justify to yourself as if you are standing in that court room that you have done your best and made the hard decisions
with integrity and honesty, you have half a chance of success. The other 50% is meticulous planning and attention to detail. Paul takes his
operational roles seriously and has on many occasions stood his ground on safety issues when others did not share his concerns. We rely on
experience and specialist knowledge to make the right decisions.
The Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge 2008 (see Media and Sponsorship) was the best example of attention to detail and a successful outcome for a situation that at the time engaged
maximum corporate and individual responsibility. Mark’s accident ripped through the corridors of power from government departments, to international media
organisations to the factory floor of Red Bull Formula 1. Don’t forget amongst all this turmoil who was thinking of Mark and his family. The buck stops
with the people that accepted the responsibility.
