Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge 2007

I was engaged as Operations Director by Mark Webber Challenge Management who are the operating entity for the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge (International premium adventure race brand held over five days, a multi-discipline physical and mental challenge). As part of a very professional team we guided the Challenge to the top of its sport internationally as the best Pro-Am Adventure race on the Globe.

My role was achieved across a 10,987 mile management structure. This challenged and honed my operational skills across cultures, logistics and the ability to influence and engage a broad range of external stakeholders (often against a difficult management environment), to achieve the highest standards and within budget. In 2008 the Mark Webber Challenge Management team performed at the highest level in front of the International media when Mark was involved in an accident whilst competing. The Challenge confirmed to me that attention to detail and integrity of delivery will always overcome adversity and deliver the right solutions.

Description of Challenge

The Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge takes in some of Tasmania’s most stunning scenic locations, competitors will mountain bike, kayak and trek different, equally challenging courses daily. As an adventure race - along the way, competitors will be challenged to other activities designed to push them outside their comfort zone.

Mark loves the experience the Challenge provides to all competitors, from the elite to the beginner. “I love seeing people being rewarded for putting in the hard yards. The Challenge isn’t all about elite athletes; we’ve had people turn up to compete who have never done anything like it before and they’ve amazed themselves by getting through the whole event – for many of them it’s been a life-changing experience and it’s great to see them having a go.

The Challenge raises funds for the Mark Webber Foundation which supports Australian Charities. 100% of the money raised from each Challenge reaches much needed Charities, in the past they have included The Leukemia Foundation, Save the Tasmanian Devils Foundation and The Whitelion Foundation.
