British Rally Championship 2000

Rallying has been in Paul’s blood since a young boy and it was his passion to compete in rallying in some form or another. Team management was a natural choice for Paul because of his team management role in sports like triathlon.

He had been managing a team on the British Rally Championship for two years and was then given the opportunity to manage Andy Burnell who was a young driver competing in the Peugeot 106 Championship with many drivers who were going to go on to International success. This was a step up from the Skoda Championship because the stakes were higher and Andy had a good chance of success. It also engaged a higher level of sponsorship commitment and financial management.

This was Paul’s first foray into negotiating with senior executives and establishing media profile for Andy, that was unique and exciting for sponsors. The season ended with Andy taking second place in the championship and a free entry into the now Rally of Wales, a round of the World Championship.
